Technology today is becoming stronger day by day. It’s been a time of whirlwind for most of the people who adopt technology and, make use of it in the most optimum way. Referring to the same it is becoming necessary for us humans learn more about deep tech and understand how can the technology be used for the net possible use. Be it retail & e-commerce, healthcare & pharma, education, manufacturing, machinery automation, etc., AI (Artificial Intelligence) has swept off the various verticals and is slowly gaining control over the rest of the domains too. As AI (Artificial Intelligence) has already forayed into several other industries, the world seems to invest some more time and money into one of the most different types of industry – defense sectors. When did we ever imagine that we will enter this space with the help of the technology under AI? According to information by KPMG, “Intelligent automation is absolutely essential for the military,” says Ian McDonald, Director of Technology Enablement in Defense and National Security, KPMG in Australia. “They cannot operate the capabilities they currently have to their full potential without it.” *https://home.kpmg/xx/en/home.html
AI is becoming a part of modern warfare these days and it has been almost deployed in every military application, and the increased research and development funding which is coming from the military research agencies to develop new and advanced applications of AI (Artificial Intelligence) is projected to drive the increased adoption of AI-driven systems in the military sector. Additionally, the US DoD overall spent USD 7.4 billion on artificial intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud in the fiscal year 2017, while China is betting on AI to enhance its defense capabilities and is expected to become the world leader in this field by 2030 (2).
There are several areas in to which AI can foray as mentioned below:
1. With a modern waterfront scene we are more agile and, prepared for more strategically, planned approach with AI playing a major role in this it can be helpful by embedding AI into the other weapons and, for systems used on army, air-force and, naval bases apart from space platforms, making it more efficient and less reliable on humans.
2. Also, apart from this, we can have the robust AI systems being able to record the pattern as and when the cyberattacks happen, the same things can be recorded to understand the pattern of cyber attacks and help create tools to handle these. And this as well has been a very important part on behalf of military logistics too.
3. The most critical part of having an AI based embedded system is also to understand the various traces of malfunctioning, forecasts based on the weather, location of the enemy on the battlefield, understanding the opponent's mission approach and also suggesting some mitigation plans.
4. Knowing how the situation looks like at warfare, we have the potential to develop or integrate AI with the Robotic Surgical Systems (RSS) and Robotic Ground Platforms (RGPs) to provide remote surgical support and evacuation activities.
5. The US Navy has enlisted such companies such as Leidos, SAIC, AECOM, and Orbital ATK to support their programs, while the US Army’s programs are supported by firms including SAIC, CACI, Torch Technologies, and Millennium Engineering for combat simulation and, training.
6. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – commonly known as drones, can be integrated with AI which can patrol border areas, look out for potential threats, and share the much-needed info about some upcoming threats and share the information about the same to the teams internally.
7.AI can also be used for a lot of chunk for data processing which will involve sharing the data for processing a large chunk of data in order to obtain valuable information.
Well as we all are aware, AU & ML together can create wonders to the world, if and if used properly & efficiently. To know more on what AI & ML have to offer for leveraging your organization, drop in your query to info@mobinius.com
